Buying a rock from ROL is more than just receiving ownership of a quality gemstone. You are actually making an investment in your specimen and its place on this web site. Once purchased the rock or mineral remains online as one of the websites assets. You take ownership of the specimen but it remains perpetually in the database.
Over time your rock, fossil or mineral specimen should grow in value. If at a later date you choose to sell it to take advantage this increase in value all you have to do is list your specimen as an active for sale specimen. When sold Rocksonline.com will act as the clearing house for your transaction and provide delivery instructions.
FAQS
WHAT ARE Registered Specimens?
A “Registered Specimen ™” is a trademark of Rocksonline.com. A Rocksonline.com “Registered Specimen" is recorded in the Rocksonline.com database. If you purchase a specimen that is registered on Rocksonline.com the specimen is shipped to you but it remains in the database with you as the registered owner. This will allow you to login to your account to view your collection of Registered Specimens.
What can I do with a Registered Specimen?
In the near future we will be offering services to owners of Registered Specimens. These services will include listing your Registered Specimens for sale.
What is the advantage of having a Registered Specimen?
Besides making the resale of your specimen very easy the registered specimen has other advantages. Use the database to look up information about the specimen. The perpetual database will replace the physical record that is used to maintain information about a rock. If this is lost or separated from the rock then the original information that describes the rock, the location etc is gone. If the rock has been registered at ROL all you must do is sign on to look up the data about the rock. This preserves the valuable information about a rock and ensures that it will retain all the valuable information for future reference and transfer to future owners.
How will I find my specimen on the website?
The specimen should have a permanent serial number tag affixed to it. Type in this serial number to access the data on that specimen. If the tag is missing and you assume that the specimen has been registered at Rocksonline.com then you will have to search out that specimen from the database. This will be done by filling in as much information about the specimen on the search form. This will bring up specimens that match some of the physical data that you are providing about the specimen you are searching for. View the photos to make a match the unidentified specimen if it is in the registered specimen database. You can contact ROL to verify your specimen and receive a new serial number tag
